First Baptist Church | Durham, NC
Large Interior Renovation
Sanctuary, Fellowship Hall, Office, and Classroom renovations
Total Floor Area: 3,300 SF
First Baptist Church of Durham’s original Sanctuary, Office, and Education building, constructed in 1927, has undergone several renovations over the years, including significant updates in the 1990’s. The facility spans 53,000 square feet across five stories, and Design Development Architects has redesigned several areas throughout the years.
This most recent phase included major interior renovations that transformed multiple spaces. The sanctuary received a complete renovation, featuring an expanded stage area, a new wheelchair lift for improved accessibility, and beautifully refinished original pews with updated fabric and cushions. To further elevate the ambiance, new flooring, paint, and lighting were introduced. Additional enhancements encompassed a renovated church office suite, fellowship hall, sanctuary lobby, improved children's areas with a secure check-in system, and upgraded finishes in common areas, classrooms, corridors, and stairwells throughout the facility.
